Workshop - Excluded spaces: Gender, identity, and inequalities

Actividades, Actividades que organiza el CEDAT  -

Anti-gender movements are on the rise. Gender, while it has always been a debated concept, is increasingly contested and refuted, particularly by powerful state and non-state actors. Gender-based violence, especially in the form of online hate speech, is further expanding, and gaining an increasing grip on young people. The pandemic, besides taking a huge toll on human lives, as it is well known, has further exacerbated existing social inequalities. While this has had a considerable impact in the Global North, it has had devasting effects in the Global South. Women, migrants, ethnic minorities and LGBTIAQ+ individuals are among the sectors of the society that have suffered the highest amplification of existing marginalization and experienced new forms of direct and indirect discrimination.

In this frame, this one-day hybrid workshop invites scholars and practitioners, at all levels of their careers, to share and discuss their research projects and results as well as their daily working experiences with or as women, migrants, ethnic minorities and LGBTIAQ+ individuals.

Papers may address the adverse and asymmetric effects that gender and ethnicity, as fluid and socially constructed concepts, have on the political and socioeconomic inequalities faced by women, migrants, ethnic minorities and/or LGBTIAQ+ individuals in different parts of the world. Proposals which focus on intersectional aspects are particularly welcome.
